On Tax Bills Fiat, Starbucks Next Up for EU Court Rulings

European Union judges will rule next month on the appeals of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV and Starbucks Corp. against decisions ordering them to pay allegedly illegal tax subsidies.

The decisions have been closely watched as they can look at the fate of much larger tax bills received by the European Commission since 2015, including a record order for Ireland to recover € 13 billion in back taxes, plus interest from Apple Inc. The EU General Court, the second highest court in the bloc’s September 24 deadline to rule on the challenges.

Luxembourg and Ireland, accused by the EU of distributing unfair tax deals to companies, will also receive verdicts on their complaints.

EU judges will hear arguments on September 17-18 from Apple, Ireland and the EU in the widely followed case./investing
