GM invests $300 million in Michigan plant, to build new EV.

Plenty of 400 new jobs are expected to be opened by General Motors Co. The American giant has said it will invest a full $ 300m to open a factory in Detroit and build a new Chevrolet electric car there.

US President Donald Trump has issued numerous criticisms of the biggest car makers in the US because of the decision to close the plant in Lordstown, Ohio.

Though Trump continues with speeches and harsh criticisms of GM, GM officials said the announcement was scheduled a long time ago. Trump again grabbed the company in a speech in Ohio on Wednesday.

GM has also said it has no way to go back and review the possibility of reopening the factory in Lordstown.

Reuters reported on GM’s investment plans for the Orion Township plant outside Detroit on Thursday.

Last year, GM said it would put an end to production at five North American assembly factories and eliminate some 15,000 jobs, causing anger and a two-day visit from Barra to Capitol Hill for them answering questions about job cuts.

The vehicle manufacturer said it is investing $ 1.8 billion in its US manufacturing operations this year, creating 700 new jobs and supporting 28,000 jobs in six countries.

GM said the vehicle’s production at a US manufacturing plant backs the rules of origin to the proposed United States, Mexico and Canada agreement.

The company has been eager to try to ease the relationship with the White House after Trump began to attack GM harsh last year. In February, GM announced that it had hired Ballard Partners, a lobbying firm led by Brian Ballard, a fundraiser for the presidential campaign to Trump./Investing.com
